Subproject 2
Past and future hydroclimate
· WP5: Regional Climate Change assessments for La Plata basin
To produce a coordinated ensemble of regional climate change scenarios and to better understand the regional effects of climate change and variability on various components of the hydrologic cycle of the La Plata Basin, with emphasis in land-surface-atmosphere feedbacks and their impact on extreme events.
Specific objectives
· To coordinate efforts to produce ensembles of the regional models toward an integrated view of the expected regional hydroclimate in South America in general and La Plata Basin in particular
· To investigate the range of differences between the projections employing a suite of mesoscale regional models
· To contribute to the knowledge of downscaled climate model scenarios for La Plata basin region, and quantify their associated uncertainties
· To study the land-atmosphere feedbacks to identify the regions of larger interaction and to analyse the role of soil moisture conditions and land use on the development of precipitation
· To assess and quantify the relative impacts of land use change and increase of greenhouse gases concentration in regional climate change in the La Plata basin
· To examine the regional effects of climate change and variability on the La Plata basin hydrologic cycle, with emphasis in land surface-atmosphere feedbacks and their impact on extreme events.
