CNRS - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) is a publicly-funded research performing organization that defines its mission as producing knowledge and making it available to society. CNRS has 26,000 employees. The 1,260 CNRS service and research units are spread throughout the country and cover all fields of research. CNRS is active in all major scientific fields. CNRS research departments and institutes encompass virtually all fields of knowledge: Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Physics, Earth Sciences and Astronomy (MIPPU department), Chemistry, Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Development, and Engineering.
