UNIGE - University of Geneve Established in the 1970s the group of paleolimnology of the University of Geneva has a large tradition in lake - and lake-sediment-based studies. Numerous projects were carried out using laboratory and field experiments as well as lacustrine sediment records. Field technology has been developed and marine seismic technology has also been adapted for lake use. Many publications have been produced which have created the present international reputation of Swiss scientists in the field of limnogeology.
In the last years major research efforts of this group have been directed towards the reconstruction of the environmental changes that occurred during the latest part of the Holocene in South and Central America and particularly their impact on local societies. The calibration of new proxies to achieve these goals is one of the priorities of the team. |
