CMCC - Euro Mediterranean Center on Climate Change Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) is an Italian Research Consortium consisting of different Italian public and private research institutions and focused on climate-related research. The Centre is financially supported by the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory, the Ministry for Education, University and Research and the Ministry for Economy. The headquarters of CMCC is based in Lecce (Italy) but there are also local offices in Bologna, Venezia, Capua and Sassari. The areas of activity of the Centre are: numerical simulations and production of climate scenarios; impact studies (socio-economic, on health, agriculture, carbon cycle, desertification and coastal zones); adaptation and mitigation policies. A significant component of the research is on the monitoring of the eco-environmental resources and specifically water. In particular, the CMCC Division involved in the CLARIS LPB project is the Numerical Applications and Scenarios (ANS) Division, which focuses on the investigation of the natural climate variability and anthropogenic climate change, mainly through numerical simulations and theoretical studies, with a special emphasis on the Mediterranean and European areas.
The tools available for the research line are numerical models of various complexity and realism, from simple linear models to more complete coupled atmosphere-ocean-sea ice-vegetation-marine biogeochemical models. |
